The United States Mint on Monday listed the official release date for the 2009 Lincoln Coin & Chronicles Set as well as other product information, including price. Major order details follow:
- Ordering opens October 15, 2009, at 12 noon ET
- Price is $55.95
- A one (1) order limit per household is in place
- A total of 50,000 sets are authorized
The set, which is part of the bicentennial celebration of Abraham Lincoln's birth and legacy, includes each of the four redesigned 2009 cents and a Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar. These five coins, all in proof condition, are encased in a special "slip-covered leather-like" case with a:
- Reproduced Abraham Lincoln photograph
- Reproduced Lincoln signature in gold
- Reproduction of the Gettysburg Address in Lincoln's handwriting
- Certificated of Authenticity
There could be stiff competition come ordering time. While the proof cents are available in other 2009 US Mint products, the individual proof Lincoln Silver Dollar sold out within 1 1/2 months of its launch on February 12. An amazing 325,000 were sold. Had not 50,000 been reserved for this special set, all of them would have been long gone. (125,000 of the uncirculated silver coins were sold as well.)
What's more, prices to buy that coin now in the secondary market are generally higher than the price the Mint has listed for the Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set.
