The 2009 Lincoln Professional Life Cent launches in Illinois on Thursday, August 13. Those who are at the official ceremony can exchange money for up to six 50-cent rolls.
But that raises an obvious question for anyone who can not attend -- Where are exchange or purchase locations for circulating Lincoln Professional Life Pennies? There are several locations and options.
Penny Exchange Locations
There are two coin exchange locations at US Mint sales counters available August 13:
-
Union Station, 50 Massachusetts Avenue NE, Washington, D.C., 20002 (See Google map of Union Station.)
- United States Mint Headquarters, 801 9th Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20220 (See Google map of US Mint.)
Each of the Mint locations will offer exchanges from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) or until the penny exchange inventory is exhausted. Also, according to a US Mint Lincoln Cent release:
"Purchases at all locations will be limited to a minimum of two rolls and a maximum of six rolls. Limits are subject to change at any time during the day. All coins are minted at the United States Mint in Philadelphia and are packaged in bank wrapping."
Purchasing US Mint Two-roll Penny Sets
Additionally, there are two options to purchase two-roll sets of the coins:
-
The US mint will offer Lincoln Professional Life penny two-roll sets beginning noon ET on August 13 at www.usmint.gov, or via their toll-free number, 1-800-USA-MINT.
-
A penny subscription program is available right now for those wanting to insure they receive the 'Professional Life' coin as well as the final design for the 2009 Lincoln Cents, the 'Presidency.' Collectors can buy a subscription and the coins will automatically get shipped when available.
(See the Mint page http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&identifier=SUBS)
Each set contains two rolls of 50-coins-one roll each from the United State Mints at Philadelphia and Denver-for $8.95 plus $4.95 shipping and handling. Orders will be limited to five sets per household.
Finally, at some point 2009 pennies will circulate via banks and in daily pocket change. Although the wait may be long, finding a new penny can be quite rewarding and free. However, and something to keep in mind, they likely will not be in as good of condition as those that arrive straight from the Mint.
The third designed cent portrays Lincoln standing in front of the State Capitol in Illinois. The coin includes the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE CENT. It was designed by United States Mint AIP Master Designer Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart.
The fourth Presidency cent is expected to be released on November 12, 2009.
