It was also here where he met his wife, Mary Todd, and where they raised their family. At the request of his wife, it was in Springfield that Lincoln was buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery following his assassination.

The ceremony took place on the grounds of the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois with a stage set at the southeastern corner of the building. A few hundred chairs were available in front of the stage, but most attendees remained in a winding line awaiting the penny exchange. [click to continue…]

2009 Lincoln Cent Indiana Formative YearsThe second 2009 Lincoln Cent with the formative years, rail splitter design will launch in Indiana on May 14 at 11 a.m. EDT, the US mint announced in a media advisory on Tuesday.

The official release ceremony will take place in the Lincoln State Park at the Lincoln Amphitheatre in Lincoln City, and is is sure to be one of the busiest events the Mint has ever hosted.

The inability to find 2009 circulating coins -- the first redesigned Lincoln penny in particular -- has created an extra level of excitement for an already attention-setting series. Additionally, up to six rolls of the new pennies may be purchased following the ceremony. Cents from the first launch sold in the secondary market for substantial premiums. That is likely to be repeated in round two, and adds to the reasoning for many who plan to attend. [click to continue…]
